Laser Hair Removal

The Rejuvenation Center uses Lumenis LightSheer Diode Laser, the world’s most advanced treatment for effective removal of unwanted hair. Great news for men and women who want to get rid of excess hair and ingrowns.

The LightSheer diode laser is a state-of-the-art system specially designed to remove unwanted hair faster, with less discomfort and more reliably than other methods.

When darker, coarser hair appears in places which may make you uncomfortable-like on the face, neck, abdomen, breasts, legs or underarms in women or on the shoulders, chest and back in men, it may be time to consider hair removal with The Rejuvenation Center’s trained and experienced medical staff with the use of the LightSheer diode laser.

How does it work?

We use a sophisticated light energy source for permanent hair reduction. The light is absorbed by the pigment in your hair, which effectively disables the hair follicle. The laser can remove hair from the face or body; for example, the arms, underarms, legs, backs, and even particularly sensitive areas like the upper lip.

How many treatments will I need?

Hair develops in phases and we can only treat hair in its active, visible stage. Therefore, the number of treatments depends on how quickly the untreated hairs appear. For significant clearance, most patients require a course of five to six treatments, which are spaced at least six to eight weeks apart. Some patients who have darker skin types may require more treatments than the average client that's a "perfect candidate".

Is it permanent reduction?

Yes. The hair we treat with our laser will result in a remarkable reduction on patient's who are "perfect candidates". Patient's can expect an 85%-95% reduction in hair after five to six treatments. As we age our hair patterns change, so this does not prevent the possibility of new hair growth over the years.

How is our treatment different from other clinics? Our laser technology is effective on a wide range of skin types (skin types I to V), and is also one of the fastest. Shorter treatment times provide a nice benefit to our patients, especially when they want their backs and legs treated.

How does it differ from electrolysis?

Electrolysis involves inserting a needle into individual hair follicles and delivering an electrical charge to them one at a time. Therefore, it can be costly, painful and time-consuming to do more than a small area. Our technology, on the other hand, delivers light energy to hundreds of follicles at a time, which makes it ideal for treating large as well as small areas.

How long does each treatment take?

It depends, of course, on the size of the area, but it typically takes 30 minutes to treat the upper back and 10 minutes to treat the bikini area.

What does it feel like?

Patients will feel a series of short snaps, somewhat like a rubber band snapping, but no local anesthesia or pain medication is necessary. Sensitivity varies from person to person, and some people may opt for a topical numbing cream.

Do I need to grow the hair out before my treatment?

No. In fact, we ask that you shave beforehand since the treatment is targeting the hair follicle itself and not just hair.

Is it safe?

The beauty of our laser technology is that it effectively destroys the hair itself without harming the surrounding skin. You may be a little red afterwards but that typically goes away in a matter of hours. As with all medical procedures there is a slight degree of risk, and we will discuss this with you thoroughly when you come in for your consultation.

How much does it cost?

This depends totally on the size of the area and the number of treatments we estimate are needed to achieve clearance. If you?d like to make an appointment for a consultation, we can give you a specific idea as to the number of treatments and the cost.

Can anyone have it done?

A good candidate is someone with pale to medium skin tone who wants to treat hair that is brown or black.  Currently there is not a laser or light-based system that can treat blonde, white, red or gray hair since there is no melanin in the hair to absorb the light. We will evaluate if you are an appropriate candidate at the time of your consultation.

How many treatments will I need?

Most areas require 5-6 treatments. However, the number of treatments required for optimal long-term benefits depends on multiple factors and hair thickness, the area treated and your hair's growth cycle. Interestingly, not all hairs are actively growing at the same time and actually go through three distinct phases: growth, regression, and resting. The laser treatments work by disabling the hair that is principally in the active growth phase at the time of treatment. Since other hairs will enter this active growth phase at different times, additional treatments may be necessary to disable all of the hair follicles in a given area.

What happens after the treatment?

Immediately following your treatment, the area may appear a bit red and swollen. Three to seven days after treatment you may experience what seems to be regrowth of hair. Actually, most of these hairs are being shed as a result of your treatment and are not regrowing. Between treatments you should not wax or pluck your hair, but it is permissible to shave.
